Photography

L.M.P.A (1983)

Licentiate level -

Like passing your driving test, it is the first qualification in photography and is a requirement for membership of the Master Photographers Association to prove that you are of an adequate standard to work as a Professional Photographer.

A.M.P.A. (1992)

Associateship level -

The qualification to prove that you are an expert in your chosen field of photography. In my case, I chose to take the qualification in wedding photography.

F.M.P.A ( 2010)

Fellowship Level-

This qualification is the highest qualification in photography

And proves that you have reached the highest level.

I am the first photographer in the world to achieve a Fellowship in Surrealist Portraiture and in 2011  I was Winner of the “Best Fellowship Panel in the World” at the British Professional Photography Awards.

Teaching

I taught for 3 years at Tile Hill college in Coventry, from 1996-1999. During the last 2 yrs, I was teaching photography for  3 days per week.

I have taught evening classes at Mid Warwickshire College.

I have taught Adult and Community Learning classes in Photography and Photoshop since 2008 and continue to do so.

2009 I started Photography and Photoshop classes for all levels at the Bidford on Avon studio. Classes at the studio are still going strong.

In 2014, I started the “Arti-Farti” lecture tour. Teaching evening and full day workshops on composite imaging and in-depth RAW image processing to photographic societies and professional photographers.

In 2015, I started the “Lighting and Posing” Lecture tour.

Teaching photographers of all grades, the finer points of lighting and posing for portraiture and wedding photography.

National Awards

I was Chairman of the West Midlands Master Photographers Association from 1996 - 2006 and a director of the MPA for the same period.

Below is a list of some of the National and International awards gained at the British Professional Photographer of the Year awards and the Master Photographer of the Year awards

Biography

After school I  studied Applied Biological Sciences at Bristol.

While there, I was Chairman  and Lecturer for the photographic society.

During the last year of my degree, I started working for "Studio Bristol" as a wedding photographer and after graduation I worked for "John Wright Photography" in Warwick. I started in the   laboratory where every aspect of black and white printing, lithographic negative work, print toning, canvas mounting and finishing were employed.

In 1982 , I ran the Leamington Spa shop for John, specialising in wedding photography and portraiture .

In 1984 I had an offer that I couldn't refuse. I had the chance of running my own studio. The studio was called “Christopher Bradbury Photography” 19 Regent Street, Royal Leamington Spa CV32 5HG.

Once the studio was opened, I made a policy to take  students on work experience from local schools, particularly those doing A level photography. In one particular year we had 6 students from Trinity School Warwick. I told the school that I would accept the students on block placement if I was put in for the exam...we all received an A level grade A.

The three students that were employed on the Youth Training Scheme all obtained distinctions in photography at both levels of City & Guilds.

I have taught evening classes at both Mid Warwickshire College and Tile Hill College.

In 1996 I started teaching at Tile Hill College on a more regular  basis, starting with one day a week and by the second year I was teaching 3 days a week. Unfortunately this time commitment and poor teaching remuneration at the time, put a strain on the business and after 3 years teaching I returned to photography full time.

In 2003 my wife and I bought a house in Bidford on Avon where we built the  current studio, offering a full range of photographic and digital editing services.

I am a regular lecturer on photography and digital Imaging  for the UK professional market. The lectures are usually  aimed at professional photographers wishing to improve their skills.

In October 2008, I returned to teaching structured courses. I started working with Adult and Community Learning, teaching beginners photography and basic Photoshop editing.

Over the last few of years, this has grown into quite a complex course and I have started  writing a book based on simple to follow projects that will enable the student to reach a high standard in a relatively short time.

In the last ten years I have won some of the top awards in the industry at both the “British Professional Photography Awards” and at the “Master Photographer of the Year Awards”.

I have won the “UK Digital Photographer of the Year” 8 times.

UK Portrait Photographer of the year twice and in 2012, I had the highest scoring image in the world at the national awards.

In 2013 I was made a moderator for Cambridge University.

In 2014 I presented the Lecture on the future of photography to the Oxford, Cambridge, RSA (OCR) examination board at their first Arts Conference in London.
